Russell lives in Daglish very near to the dog park, where he has walked his dogs for many years. He has 3 sons, the youngest of which has cerebral palsy – you may well have seen Russell walking Matthew around the park in his wheelchair. He has recently moved to a group home, and now that Russell is no longer his sole carer he has a lot more time to dedicate to other activities. The 2 older sons are in their mid-twenties; one works locally and lives with Russell, while the other is studying in Germany.
For most of his life Russell has worked as a software engineer, but he spent some time as a maths teacher at Shenton College. He is a keen a cappella singer and has an active management role in a couple of local choirs (one of which he founded). Russell has been on the school board and P&C of his son's school and played an active role in the opposition to the new Local Planning Scheme (LPS5) which was imposed on us by the state government a few years ago.
Having lived in Daglish for many years Russell has grown to love the area, and is keen to foster a sense of local community. "I believe that this is our best defence against inappropriate development because people who love the area are not going to want to leave it. I want our residents to have a sense of pride when they walk our streets, and to feel like this is a place where they belong." To that end Russell spends quite a bit of time picking up litter from the dog park, and encourages others to do the same.

He operates a mailing list to keep people informed about local community activities - please consider signing up below.
